About Black Dog Gallery

Siblings Virginia (Ginny) Lascara and Joe Lascara founded Black Dog Gallery in 1992 as a way to blend their respective passions for 18th Century artwork and build upon their combined experiences. Prior to starting Black Dog Gallery Ginny spent 13 years as an Associate Curator of Prints and Maps with Colonial Williamsburg where she continued to expand her knowledge and expertise. Today she creates Black Dog's historically accurate floorcloths using traditional techniques and a variety of designs.

Joe applies the skills and experience he gained in the ship repair industry to his impressive woodworking skills and knowledge of 18th Century frames to create pieces of incredible beauty. Walk through Monticello, the Francis Land House and dozens of other period homes and you'll see Joe's work on the walls.

Ginny and Joe are the team that historians turn to when they need an authentic piece of 18th Century artwork. In fact, the producers of the hit movie The Patriot, with Mel Gibson, turned to Ginny and Joe to provide the authentic, historically-accurate pieces used as props in the film. You can also find examples of their efforts gracing the pages of national magazines and in virtually any photograph with ties to Colonial Williamsburg homes.
