About
Siblings, Virginia (Ginny) Lascara and Joe Lascara established Black Dog Gallery in 1992 as a way to blend their respective passions for art and craftsmanship. Prior to starting the Gallery Ginny spent 13 years as an Associate Curator with Colonial Williamsburg Foundation where she developed a vast knowledge of eighteenth-century design. She draws on this museum background in creating historically accurate frame molding profiles and floorcloth designs. Ginny was also one the founding partners of Period Designs, a business in Yorktown that specialized in period interiors. After careers in environmental science and ship repair, Joe chose to pursue his lifelong love of woodworking and paint finishes in his work at the Black Dog Gallery. Their combined experience created a unique source for custom painted floorcloths and hand-finished period frame moldings at gallery locations in Virginia Beach and Yorktown, VA. In addition to a local following, designers, historians and curators of some of America’s finest museums and homes have utilized the skill and expertise of Black Dog Gallery in their restoration and renovation projects.

In 2024 Ginny and Joe closed both gallery locations to begin new chapter in their lives. They made the difficult decision to close the custom framing business but were delighted to turn over the floorcloth business to colleague, Randy Hess. He is an accomplished professional artist who provided exceptional artistry and design as part of Black Dog Gallery for over a decade. Randy will be carrying on business with the new name of Black Dog Floorcloths at website blackdogfloorcloths.com. New and current floorcloth projects and information will be posted at this site. Ginny will remain involved in the business and be available as a design consultant.
